public speaking is when my anxiety is at its absolute worse.i had to give an oral presentation in 8th grade and it was horrible my stupid teacher actually emabarassed me on purpose!i was up there speaking (trying to speak) and in front of the whole class he says, whats wrong with you?why are you so nervous? thats one of the reasons i dropped out of school.I just couldnt handle the attention of everyone looking at me.its the worse

Public speaking is tough. I didn’t like doing it even before I got social anxiety disorder.

aww amanda. the part when u said u envy people who get up and sing etc. I actually do singing in a recording studio with my friend in front of this man (its not somewhere like song or anything lol. its just this music project)
and yh its hard :/ i do get nervous but because im with my friend its not as bad. i have sang by myself in front of a crowd etc. dont be envious of people like me. because in the back of my mind im really unconfident etc. even though people say im good etc

Amanda, everytime I watched your videos I never get bored coz I always feel related to what you’re saying. Getting to speak in front of the class is always a disaster to me, especially with my inborn stuttering. And I’m still having it until now.

Public speaking is very difficult for me also. I get so nervous just standing up in front of a class if I have to do a presentation.

I can relate to this completely. From elementary through high school, I would get nervous doing oral presentations to the point where I would get all hot, red, stutter, and then the teacher always would tell me to “speak up” which made me blush MORE. I hated it! Then in college, I would attend the first day of class & if we were told that we would have presentations in that class, then I would drop that class entirely and switch to another that didn’t. I did anything to avoid public speaking.

I had to give a presentation in my psychology class. That look you get from the students after you made a awful presentation. Id rather do a 12 page report than 30 seconds of public speaking.

  13. myhalo123 Says:

Oh man did I hate those presentations in school. Book reports, science fair projects, anything. I still don’t know what is better – having togo first or last. Have done both and they both stink!

Your teacher is like most people, they don’t think anxiety disorders exist. Only someone with one can relate.

People who can perform, sing, dance, etc. in front of people fascinate me. I couldn’t imagine being able to do something like that.

Seriously. My social anxiety was so bad in the beginning that I had trouble making videos for youtube because it felt too much like…..public speaking. lol.

I actually feel more relaxed when the lights were off at school but when the teacher would turn the lights on it would be a whole different story. I guess because i thought people couldnt see me as good with the lights off.

I don’t think people without an anxiety disorder can ever really understand the level of fear public speaking invokes in those of us that do. As great as the anxiety is in anticipation, so is the relief once it is over.

Hey, i know exactly where you’re coming from, i had a presentation b4 xmas, but i spoke 2 my teacher and she understood and so she said that i didnt have to speak, but when we did another one i would build up my participation more and more. scary but her hearts in the right place!
